Questions, questions, questions

I've been thinking a lot about my poker game and how to improve it.

One thing I've been doing is railing Surflexus during the MTT's he posts for live blogging. I know it may seem like he's won 265 straight coin flips, but heck, he must be doing something right.

I continue to read books, magazines and blogs on the subject. Trying to just be a sponge on everything everyone is writing. The book I'm working on is "Small Stakes Hold'em: Winning big with expert play", by Miller, Skalansky and Malmuth. So far this book has just been written form of a hand chart. What to play when...could this book be any harder to read? AA is a big hand, I get that, but I'm falling asleep here.

One thing I'm becoming increasingly aware of and wonder if this happens to anyone else: when I have a big score, I will suck at poker for a while afterwards. Yes, I had big score in Vegas (for me - some of you genius' use that payout as a buy in...BANKROLL MANAGEMENT!) Now, I can't help but expect AA to get cracked if I see them at all. After each of my biggest scores, I've seen one nice slide in my bankroll afterwards. Is this just me? If it is...how the heck do I stop it?

I'll admit it, the BBT3 is killing my desire to play the big blogaments. Sure the Friday night donkament is fun...we be drinkin' and you never know when TBA will rebuy with enthusiasm, but the Mookie is my one free night for blogger tournaments...and I don't dodge bullets. There is just so many people playing hard to accumulate chips early that if you are card dead, you fold your way to oblivion or to a sick suckout. How do you combat this? I mean I love the rush of poker, getting it in, but when someone will shove K8o when the blinds are 15/30, I don't care how short you think you are. WTF?

  • So, what are some ways to improve my game that work?
  • How do you get value out of Poker Tracker?
  • Anyone ever spot a leak in my game they wish to share with me?
  • The online lessons sound interesting, and I know a few of you have used them, but which ones give you the value for your money?
  • Any books people like to recommend?
  • How do I convince he wife to let me go to Vegas more often?
  • Will Corn-Vegas happen?
  • Why does Minnesota not have better poker?
  • How bad are the rest of the teams in the American League Central?
  • Will Kat really stop hosting the donkament like she said this past week?

The world may never know the answer to all of these questions, but do you?

Don't Suck
How do you get value out of Poker Tracker?
Get a program that uses the information real time while playing, track the fish
Anyone ever spot a leak in my game they wish to share with me?
Don't min-raise bluff on the river with deep stacks
The online lessons sound interesting, and I know a few of you have used them, but which ones give you the value for your money?
Read the forums, then think for yourself with their outlines
Any books people like to recommend?
Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series kicks much ass, or Harrington if you must read about poker
How do I convince he wife to let me go to Vegas more often?
While at the bar ask why there's no video poker, why your drink isn't comped from playing $100/hand Pai Gow for the past three hours, or ask the wife why there's no porn slappers while taking a walk
Will Corn-Vegas happen?
Depends if Buddy ever finds his way out of Davenport
Why does Minnesota not have better poker?
You need to go to Canterbury
How bad are the rest of the teams in the American League Central?
H-o-r-r-i-d, except that lefty not named C.C. Sabathia on the Indians
Will Kat really stop hosting the donkament like she said this past week?

So, what are some ways to improve my game that work?
~When faced w/ a tough decision imagine someone that's a whole lot smarter than you... and ask yourself, what would they do?

How do you get value out of Poker Tracker?
~Unsubscribe and save the money you would've spent on it.

Anyone ever spot a leak in my game they wish to share with me?
~Not that I wish to share, no! I jest... no glaring leak I've witnessed.

The online lessons sound interesting, and I know a few of you have used them, but which ones give you the value for your money?
~Lessons are over-rated. That's what experience and discussion is for.

Any books people like to recommend?
~Harrington's 3 volumes are a must read, imo.

How do I convince the wife to let me go to Vegas more often?
~Spend some winnings on her, and include an explanation that "w/out Vegas this would all be impossible."

Will Corn-Vegas happen?
~No. People traveling to the MidWest on purpose??

Why does Minnesota not have better poker?
~Couldn't tell ya. But possibly related to why they don't have better basketball teams.

How bad are the rest of the teams in the American League Central?
~Cleveland looks alright, but yeah, the division as a whole blows.

Will Kat really stop hosting the donkament like she said this past week?
~Any day now. I've witnessed her frustration with the play in that tourney a few times, and it seems evident she's bound to cease hosting soon. Bummer.

I used to have the same problem with getting a big score and then taking a dump for a while on the felt. I really thought about it and realized that after I would win I would then raise my stakes not really realizing that it was a different game. I am not sure that this is what you are doing, I am just saying that after I realized it I did not have that problem.

As far as getting your wife to go to Vegas you can just say that you met this cool blogger from MN that you guys must meet, and you need to go down there in Nov. when he is getting married so that he can buy you guys a couple drinks.....Yeah that might not work. I will think of something else.

LG~ This one he is correct but don't think of Cayne he is not smarter then you!

How do you get value out of Poker Tracker?
~Unsubscribe and save the money you would've spent on it.
LG~ Cayne is not so smart... As I mentioned above. I would ask for someone else's opinion.

Anyone ever spot a leak in my game they wish to share with me?
~Not that I wish to share, no! I jest... no glaring leak I've witnessed.
LG~ He couldn't spot a leak in the Titanic. But no I have not seen anything.

The online lessons sound interesting, and I know a few of you have used them, but which ones give you the value for your money?
~Lessons are over-rated. That's what experience and discussion is for.
LG~ Ok this is where I truly disagree with RC. I do think lesions in any sport slash hobby are important. All the great chess players in history had coaches. Something to keep pondering. And Cayne is a donkey.

Any books people like to recommend?
~Harrington's 3 volumes are a must read, imo.
JC~ Lonesome Dove. One of the best American novels ever written. I would follow that up with Last of the Mohicans. Poker books are ghey!

How do I convince the wife to let me go to Vegas more often?
~Spend some winnings on her, and include an explanation that "w/out Vegas this would all be impossible."
LG~ here the idiot savant has a point! Spending money on the spouse is always a good way to do the activity again.

Will Corn-Vegas happen?
~No. People traveling to the MidWest on purpose??
LG~Cayne is stupid.

Why does Minnesota not have better poker?
~Couldn't tell ya. But possibly related to why they don't have better basketball teams.
LG~ Once again my friend who eats paste is way off. It has to do with the fact that the mosquitos pray mostly on poker players and pit bosses. Just they way it is no one can explain it.

How bad are the rest of the teams in the American League Central?
~Cleveland looks alright, but yeah, the division as a whole blows.
LG~Cleveland Rocks!!! Man Cayne you are just killing me!

Will Kat really stop hosting the donkament like she said this past week?
~Any day now. I've witnessed her frustration with the play in that tourney a few times, and it seems evident she's bound to cease hosting soon. Bummer.
LG~Well I hope I get into one before it shutsdown.

Catch you later

Hear the rime of the ancient mariner
See his eye as he stops one of three
Mesmerises one of the wedding guests
Stay here and listen to the nightmares of the sea.

And the music plays on, as the bride passes by
Caught by his spell and the mariner tells his tale.

Driven south to the land of the snow and ice
To a place where nobodys been
Through the snow fog flies on the albatross
Hailed in gods name, hoping good luck it brings.

And the ship sails on, back to the north
Through the fog and ice and the albatross follows on.

The mariner kills the bird of good omen
His shipmates cry against what hes done
But when the fog clears, they justify him
And make themselves a part of the crime.

Sailing on and on and north across the sea
Sailing on and on and north til all is calm.

The albatross begins with its vengeance
A terrible curse a thirst has begun
His shipmates blame bad luck on the mariner
About his neck, the dead bird is hung.

And the curse goes on and on at sea
And the curse goes on and on for them and me.

day after day, day after day,
We stuck nor breath nor motion
As idle as a painted ship upon a painted ocean
Water, water everywhere and
All the boards did shrink
Water, water everywhere nor any drop to drink.

There calls the mariner
There comes a ship over the line
But how can she sail with no wind in her sails and no tide.

See...onward she comes
Onward she nears out of the sun
See, she has no crew
She has no life, wait but heres two.

Death and she life in death,
They throw their dice for the crew
She wins the mariner and he belongs to her now.
Then...crew one by one
They drop down dead, two hundred men
She...she, life in death.
She lets him live, her chosen one.

one after one by the star dogged moon,
Too quick for groan or sigh
Each turned his facce with a ghastly pang
And cursed me with his eye
Four times fifty living men
(and I heard nor sigh nor groan)
With heavy thump, a lifeless lump,
They dropped down one by one.

The curse it lives on in their eyes
The mariner wished hed die
Along with the sea creatures
But they lived on, so did he.

And by the light of the moon
He prays for their beauty not doom
With heart he blesses them
Gods creatures all of them too.

Then the spell starts to break
The albatross falls from his neck
Sinks down like lead into the sea
Then down in falls comes the rain.

Hear the groans of the long dead seamen
See them stir and they start to rise
Bodies lifted by good spirits
None of them speak and theyre lifelesss in their eyes

And revenge is still sought, penance starts again
Cast into a trance and the nightmare carries on.

Now the curse is finally lifted
And the mariner sights his home
Spirits go fromhe long dead bodies
Form their own light and the mariners left alone.

And then a boat came sailing towards him
It was a joy he could not believe
The pilots boat, his son and the hermit,
Penance of life will fall onto him.

And the ship sinks like lead into the sea
And the hermit shrieves the mariner of his sins.

The mariners bound to tell of his story
To tell this tale wherever he goes
To teach gods word by his own example
That we must love all things thaat God made.

And the wedding guests a sad and wiser man
And the tale goes on and on and on.

So, what are some ways to improve my game that work? Considering I have the same question, I plead the fifth...

Anyone ever spot a leak in my game they wish to share with me? Yes, you're leaking time reading my blog, and more by posting comments - LOL - seriously, TY for the advice on realtors!

Any books people like to recommend? Try anything by John Vorhaus - it may seem like a lot of the basics, but reinforcement is not a bad thing and he's easy to read.

How do I convince he wife to let me go to Vegas more often? I agree with other comments - show [give?] her the rewards of good play.

Why does Minnesota not have better poker? Because Scandanavians know WAY better ways to keep warm than dragging pots! [wink]
